What are my options
for updating and maintaining my site once it is created?
You have two basic options. You can maintain the site yourself or
hire someone to maintain it. If you choose to maintain it yourself,
you will need web-editing software. Netscape Navigator has a built
in web-editing tool called Netscape Composer. This tool is free and
can be downloaded off of Netscape’s web site. Netscape Composer
has greatly improved the features it offers and will be an adequate
tool to make simple text and image changes on basic sites. I am available
to train you or your staff in the use of editing software for a fee.
If you will require more substantial maintenance to your site, I
provide maintenance services starting at $20 a month. The basic maintenance
fee provides you with unlimited changes to existing text and the addition
of up to three new images per month. The addition of new pages or
the alteration of images or site structure requires an additional
fee.
It is important to indicate how you intend to maintain the site before
the creation of your site begins. This decision can greatly influence
the way in which a site is designed.
Will my site be listed in search engines
like Yahoo and Google?
Yes. As part of your web design package, you will be registered
with the main search engines. This does not mean you will immediately
find yourself listed. Here is how the process works:
The Internet has programs called “spiders’ that routinely
“crawl” through the countless web pages on the web. These
spiders look for new web sites and index them as they are found. Registering
your new site with a search engine simply insures that the spiders
will crawl through your site sooner. It can still take as much as
four months for your site to get indexed as it will undergo a series
of checks performed by each search engine. But you can be sure that
your site will eventually be indexed.
What are the “tricks” for
getting my site indexed well by search engines?
When we begin the design of your site, you will be asked to provide
a list of keywords that visitors might type in when searching for
your site. These words will be written into the code in your web pages
so that you will be filed in the search engines properly. You will
want to choose these words carefully. It is wise to survey your customers
and staff to discover what words different people may think of using.
Keep in mind that you are competing with the entire world when it
comes to being indexed in a search engine. You cannot expect to find
your business listed at the top right away. For example, a dairy marketing
its cheese on the Internet may have “cheese” listed as
one of its keywords, yet typing the word “cheese”
into a search engine will pull up millions of companies with the same
keyword. Consequently, it is wise to use more specific words in conjunction
with these broader keywords. You may use the city you are located
in or other descriptive words unique to your business.

Why is MV Web Design a good choice?
MV Web Design is owned and operated by one freelance Web designer
/ developer. This provides many advantages:
-
You will be working with one person from start to finish, which
means you will have direct contact with the person involved in
all the aspects of your site. There is less chance for confusion
that can cost time and money.
-
It is cost efficient! Since MV Web Design is a home-based business,
I do not have to charge extra to cover office expenses. You pay
for the work I do and nothing more.
-
My business benefits directly from a job well done. It is in
my best interest to go above and beyond your expectations for
your Web site.
